5 Types of Assembly in Metal Manufacturing
📆 2021-02-22

There are many important aspects in manufacturing that need to be considered in order to be profitable for the company. If the product is assembled in poor quality, the product's functionality and longevity will not last long.
Product components can be perfectly engineered and designed and within budget, but if the assembly method is not used, it can damage the parts designed for. There are several types of assembly that are popular in manufacturing today, including:
-
Mechanical assembly
This assembly process uses various types of hardware or fasteners such as bolts, nuts, screws and others to assemble several parts together. This method is great for assembly that is not permanent, requires maintenance, adjustments, and replaceable parts as it allows flexibility for removing and replacing hardware.
-
Spot weld assembly
Spot weld assemblies join and bond two metal sheets together. This method is less permanent than regular welding, but more permanent than hardware assembly. This assembly method is great for cabinets, brackets, and other sheet metal components.
-
Rivet assembly
This type of assembly has similar strength but less than welds, and is also less expensive. This method is good for assemblies that require shear strength and for assemblies that use a wide variety of materials. This assembly method is preferred for structural, rugged assemblies that are subject to fluctuating temperatures and pressures.
-
Weld assembly
The assembly used is to join two or more metal pieces together. This method is good for permanent, structural, and strength assemblies.
-
Brazing or soldering assembly
This assembly process uses filler metal that is melted to a certain temperature which will bind the two components together. This is a great way to bond two different types of metal while still maintaining its strength, like welding. This type of assembly method is used for pipes for plumbing, flashing, gutters, electronic components, and jewelry.
Conclusion
These various assembly methods provide choices about how permanent, temporary, expensive, and inexpensive an assembled part or product is. During the assembly process, Duta Laserindo Metal always determines which method is the most effective to use. Apart from that, the durability and strength of the product can also play a major role in the type of assembly to be used. The types of assembly mentioned above are not all, but only commonly used methods.
