5 Types of PPE for Process Welding Safety

The welding process is one of the jobs that has many high risks. It is because, during the welding process, smoke, welding light, heat, and electrical hazards will arise. Therefore, it is very dangerous if you do not use welding safety tools according to the SOP. When welding SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW or gas welding such as OAW, using welding personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory. If we use safety equipment according to standards, then work accidents can be minimized.

Especially for PT DLM, a Laser Cutting Vendor company in Southeast Asia. PT DLM applies safety standards following the SOP. It is also important for all PT DLM employees, where the guarantee of welfare and safety for all employees, especially for jobs that have high risks.

The types of safety tools that you can use are; welding helmets/masks, welding gloves, aprons, safety shoes, and work clothes. For those of you who still don't know the type of welding equipment and their functions, the following are work safety tools that need to be used in the welding process:

5 Types of PPE for Process Welding Safety

1. Apron for welding work clothes

Welding work clothes are clothing that protect all parts of the body from heat and welding sparks. Besides, there are additional aprons, namely chest aprons and arm aprons made of leather. It will prevent perforated aprons from high welding spatter temperature.

2. Welding Gloves

Welding gloves made of leather or a similar asbestos material with good flexibility. Welding gloves function to protect both hands from welding sparks or spatter and material heat generated from the welding process.

3. Welding helmet or Mask

Welding helmets have the function of protecting the face from welding sparks, welding heat, and welding rays to the eyes. Welding masks are made of heat-resistant plastic material, in addition there are three glasses (clear, black, clear) which serve to protect the eyes from visible and ultraviolet light hazards when doing welding work.

Also, electric welding glass has coding numbers; 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 and 14. The larger the size, the higher the density or darkness of the glass. So, you can adjust it according to your eye condition.

4. Welding Shoes

Welding shoes are made of leather and there is a steel plate on the front, which serves to protect the feet from falling heavy and sharp objects. In addition, these shoes protect from the dangers of electric shock because they are insulators.

5. Welding Mask

The mask serves as a respiratory protective device from the dangers of welding smoke. Welding smoke is the result of combustion from chemicals or melting of the welding material. Therefore, this welding smoke is almost like clean powder and can be harmful to human breathing.
